This page is dedicated to the club's founding members:
It was the Spring of 2001 when the people listed above got together and came up with an idea to form a Corvette club in Columbia, South Carolina. While there were already two other Corvette clubs in Columbia, they focused mainly on racing. There wasn't a club that encompassed the love of Corvette's, no matter what your interest was. At a dinner at O'Charleys in Lexington, the founding members met and talked about what this club should be about, why it needed to be formed, and what members could expect from it. At this dinner, Donna volunteered to take on the job of President and webmaster, Tim volunteered to be VP, Mike took on the job of club Treasurer and Tammy stepped up as Secretary. From these humble beginnings, the following club goals were established:
Basically, by the seat of their pants, they started getting things organized. Name tags were ordered. Our official name was established, our logo was developed, and our purpose was outlined. A Web site was developed and went online. They were so determined that each of the founders created business cards with their contact information and placed them on any Corvette they saw. Be it a grocery store, a local Mall, the dry cleaners, any parking lot, it didn't matter. Before long, they were ready to make a go at it! A meeting place was selected, hope and excitement filled the members as the advertisement and recruitment of members began! They would travel from car show to car show seeking new members and showing off their Vettes. Each one had an eye for customizing the cars and they were constantly looking for creative ways to personalize their Corvettes. The first meeting was sparsely attended, but that didn't deter them. They continued participating in area activities and slowly, the club started to grow. During those early days, not much prodding was needed for the club to participate in an event. Soon, the club was invited to be in many local parades such as the Blythewood Christmas parade, Chapin 4th of July celebration, Gilbert Peach Festival, Lexington's FunFest, the Carolina Carrillon Parade and, of course, the Irmo Okra Strut!... just to name a few. People began to hear about Capitol City Corvette Club and soon, the fun began. Leisurely impromptu dinners began where members had fun, laughed, talked about past and upcoming events, and of course, talked about their Vettes. They had summer picnics, progressive dinners, poker runs, regular Sunday Ice Cream socials and the ever popular mod days and dyno days. A long-distance club trip to the National Corvette Museum to unveil our club brick and a club trip to Corvettes at Carlisle was formed. They organized a tribute to the Stars & Stripes National Caravan (honoring 9/11) and joyfully celebrated the 50th Anniversary Celebration in Nashville, TN with thousands of other Corvette lovers! The club's first BIG car show was held at the Irmo Okra Strut they worked really hard to put on the show and it was a resounding success! Proceeds were donated to the Town of Irmo for the town park. From all of this (and the founding members determination), Capitol City Corvette Club was conceived and brought to life and continues to grow today. This club was founded primarily on developing friendship and pride among Corvette owners and drivers and having fun, lots of fun. This sentiment is still alive today and will be the theme of the club for years to come (This information is respectfully submitted and offered for all to see in honor of our founding members by the Capitol City Corvette Club members)
